OK, there are a couple of new polls on the blog - we are planning to be in Tennessee for Thanksgiving Day to celebrate with the Garrett clan. Our "grand plan" then is to head south to Auburn to cheer our Tigers on to victory in the Iron Bown with the rest of the Vest/Parrish family. So, we hope we see you at one of those places that weekend. Although the polls don't work exactly like we envisioned and allow us to see WHO is coming, it is good to get an idea of numbers, so go ahead and put your vote in - it only lets you vote once per computer. So, the odd jobs that are getting done around our house....yeah, well the monorail set getting put up is one, right? Ha! Andy and I bought this for Matthew when we were at Disney several years ago, maybe before he was even born. Definitely when we were in that stage of buying for the baby that we had no idea how to take care of. :) But thought would be cool to play with! In 5 years! And he so is!

Well, if a pumpkin is a drum, then a monorail support is DEFINITELY a trumpet. He's a what, he's a what, he's a music man....!

We are off for a few days. Andy has a media advisor's conference in Washington DC and Matthew and I are going with him. We'll update when we return. We love you all and hope you are well. :) Cherith, Andy and Matthew.

We've enjoyed catching up with you via this blog. Since the probability of my starting a blog are at least two standard deviations below the mean (for you statistics enthusiasts out there), I'll hijack your comments to update folks on our nuclear unit.
Like Cherith, Margaret is also taking statistics this term and got a B on her midterm last week, an outstanding achievement in view of the innumeracy gene expressed so clearly on both sides of her family. Her boat turned in a good performance in Boston last weekend, placing in the top ten in their event at the international Head of the Charles Regatta.
Tom has been building deer blinds and sighting in rifles in preparation for deer season next month. Opening Day of the season is a court holiday in northern Michigan, and a lot of businesses are closed. Judges in Detroit do not share this value, however, and Tom has had to get several trials adjourned that were misguidedly scheduled for that week.
I tried a case in federal court earlier this year, a new experience for me, as malpractice cases are almost always brought in state courts. I learned last week that the trial will be written up in three different litigation magazines over the next few weeks. Also, a courtroom sketch artist made a drawing of me giving my closing argument (cameras are prohibited in most local courts). It doesn't resemble me to any great degree, but it's hard to criticize somebody who makes you look both younger and thinner than you actually are. Not the O.J. Simpson trial, by any means, but still far more attention than the cases usually attract; the feds seem to take everything so seriously.
So that's the news from Lake Wobego--oh, wait, wrong closing. That's the news from the Glittering Cities of the Far North, as Daddy used to say. We're hoping to be in Manchester for Thanksgiving, but scheduling is still somewhat fluid.
Love,
Jane
Congrats Margaret on both your rowing and Statistics achievement - our midterm is scheduled for next week. I'm studying in anticipation. Grrr... Wow, our very own Jane sketched in real life!!!! Where will be able to find this? Good to hear from you guys - hope to see you in Manchester. Love to all! Cherith:)
Thanks! Good luck/ hope it went well if you've taken it already. I'm so glad we have this delightful area of study in common--I see a lot of potential for serious cousin-bonding via stats theorems.
